On March 21, 2024 – Prof. Dr. Peter Haddawy, Deputy Dean for Research, the Faculty of Information and communication Technology (ICT Mahidol), welcomed Dr. Thomas Barkowsky and five students on the occasion of their visit to the Mahidol-Bremen Medical Informatics Research Unit (MIRU), the Faculty of ICT Mahidol University, Salaya. They are here to collaborate on several research projects, including IoT devices for monitoring of wastewater for disease outbreak detection, a dengue diagnostic decision support system, a personal vaccine record app, a dengue case investigate system, and a system to support vaccine trials.
The projects are being carried out as a collaboration between the Bremen Spatial Cognition Center, the Faculty of Tropical Medicine, the Faculty of ICT, and the Ministry of Public Health of Thailand. The software being developed is intended to be deployed for practical use and several of the systems are already being used or being used on a trials basis. The students are part of a 16-student team working on these projects under the umbrella of the Mobile4D initiative, headed by Dr. Thomas Barkowsky.
