ICT Mahidol’s collaborative research has been awarded the “2024 Transfer Prize” by the University of Bremen

The Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, Mahidol University (ICT Mahidol), extends its congratulations to the team behind the collaborative project “DENCAI – DENgue CAse Investigation” for being awarded the “2024 Transfer Prize” from the University of Bremen. This project is a collaborative effort between the Faculty of ICT, the Faculty of Tropical Medicine at Mahidol University, and the University of Bremen. On this occasion, Dr. Thomas Barkowsky, Senior Researcher in the Bremen Spatial Cognition Center and Adjunct Professor in the Faculty of ICT, accepted the award on behalf of the team at a ceremony held at Radio Bremen, Germany, on October 22, 2024.

The “DENCAI – DENgue CAse Investigation” project is software developed by Dr. Thomas Barkowsky from the University of Bremen, Professor Dr. Peter Haddawy, Global Talent Professor from the Faculty of ICT, and Assoc. Prof. Saranath Lawpoolsri Niyom, Head of the Department of Tropical Hygiene and Deputy Director of BIOPHICS, Mahidol University. The software helps Thailand’s Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health, to accelerate and better manage the process of investigating reported dengue cases via a mobile app and web-based dashboard. The first version of DENCAI was tested in Chonburi province during Thailand’s dengue fever season in May 2023 and received excellent feedback from the Department of Disease Control.

The “Transfer Prize” (Transferpreis der Universität Bremen verliehen) is awarded by the University of Bremen to individuals or research groups that excel in transferring knowledge and technology from the university to industry or society. This award encourages the practical application of research and promotes collaboration between academia and industry to create positive social and economic impact. It recognizes significant contributions to innovation and problem-solving in contemporary issues.
