ICT Mahidol held the Ground-Breaking Ceremony for the “Intelligent Digital Hub in Medicine (IDHM)”

On December 16, 2024, the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, Mahidol University (ICT Mahidol), held Ground-Breaking Ceremony for the “Intelligent Digital Hub in Medicine (IDHM),” presided over by Ms. Supamas Isarabhakdi, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research, and Innovation (MHESI) of Thailand. The ceremony was held at the construction site near the rugby-football field behind the nursing student dormitories of Ramathibodi Hospital, Salaya.

On this occasion, Prof. Piyamitr Sritara, MD, FRCP, FACP, President of Mahidol University, delivered an opening address, emphasizing the purpose and significance of the IDHM. The hub aims to enhance students’ potential and foster lifelong learning (Reskill & Upskill) through Authentic Learning methodologies integrated with interdisciplinary studies. The IDHM will serve as a platform for cutting-edge research and academic services, addressing the rapid evolution of technology. Designed as a space for learning and creativity, the hub propels Mahidol University towards the “Real-World Impact,” applying expertise in ICT, Artificial Intelligence for medical diagnostics, the Internet of Things, data science, cybersecurity, software engineering, and health informatics to drive innovation and economic value.

After the report was concluded, Ms. Supamas Isarabhakdi, presided over the Ground-Breaking Ceremony. She lit incense and candles at the offering table and placed the ceremonial incense sticks on the sacrificial table during the auspicious invocation ceremony. Subsequently, the Ground-Breaking ritual was performed, led by Royal Astrologer Chatchai Pin-ngern, Head of the Brahmin Astrology, Bureau of the Royal Household. Following the ceremony, executives and distinguished guests participated in scattering flowers over the foundation stone.

The IDHM is envisioned as a critical learning center for developing expertise in digital technologies. It will integrate theoretical learning with hands-on experiences through practical challenges provided by public and private sectors. The hub aspires to inspire and enhance the capabilities of Thai students and the public, especially those who lack opportunities to engage with world-class laboratories. Additionally, it will serve as a resource for students, faculty members, and staff across various departments to conduct research and utilize resources for real-world applications.
