On July 15, 2023 – the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, Mahidol University (ICT Mahidol), hosted the MUICT-AST Tech Competition, “Capture the Flag: Basic Network and Cybersecurity for High School Students.” On this occasion, Dr. Pattanasak Mongkolwat, the Dean, presided as the chairperson during the opening ceremony. A total of 20 teams, comprised of high school students in grades 10-12 from various schools across the country, successfully passed the selection process and competed in the event which took place at LAB103, the Faculty of ICT, Mahidol University, Salaya.
In the morning session, Dr. Parinya Ekparinya, a Lecturer of the Computer Engineering Department at the Faculty of Engineering, King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang (KMITL), along with Dr. Assadarat Khurat, an Instructor of the Computer Science Group at ICT Mahidol, delivered a comprehensive lecture on Cybersecurity to all the participating students.
In the afternoon, a cybersecurity competition took place, with Dr. Parinya Ekparinya and Dr. Assadarat Khurat serving as judges. Additionally, Dr. Tipajin Thaipisutikul, the Assistant Dean for Academic Services and Technology Transfer, fulfilled a dual role as both the MC and a judge for this session.
The competition results are as follows:
- 1st prize, with 5,000 THB and a certificate: Team SKHack from Suankularb Wittayalai School. The team members consist of Mr. Phawat Suksiriwan, and Mr. Metawat Rojniweth.
- 2nd prize, with 3,000 THB and a certificate: Team Krapao Moo Krob from Bangkok Christian College. The team members consist of Mr. Napaul Intharasing, and Mr. Pannatat sriyam.
- 3rd prize, with 2,000 THB and a certificate: Team Kalam Plee from Kanchanapisek Wittayalai Nakhon Pathom School (Pratamnak Suankularb Matthayom). The team members consist of Mr. Waitin Jittiruengwichai, and Mr. Piyabutr Kangwankijwanich.
- Honorable mention prizes, with 1,000 THB and certificates:
- Team Budweiser from Phatthalung School. The team members consist of Mr. Paphangkon Bonmaraeng, and Mr. Peerawit Saksaringkan
- Team EagleEyes from Assumption College Thonburi. The team members consist of Mr. Thanaphumi Kunuthai, and Mr. Anuj Chatriratna
- Team RS Digital Wizards from Ratchasima Witthayalai School. The team members consist of Mr. Tithinan Sobking, and Mr. Boonpat Patanakhajorn
During the award ceremony of the MUICT-AST Tech Competition, Dr. Tipajin Thaipisutikul, Assistant Dean for Academic Services and Technology Transfer, presented the first and second prizes to the winning teams, while Miss Bang-Orn Kornwirat, the Acting Head of the Division, presented the honorable mention awards.
The MUICT-AST Tech Competition, “Capture the Flag: Basic Network and Cybersecurity for High School Students,” aims to foster the utilization of programming and algorithmic skills among high school students. It serves as a platform to cultivate new generations of quality programmers for the software industry in the future.
