On July 6, 2023 – the Faculty of Information and Communication Technology, Mahidol University (ICT Mahidol), organized the “Basic Fire Drill” for approximately 300 staff and students at the ICT Building, Salaya. At the beginning of the activity, Lect. Snit Sanghlao, Assistant Dean for Engineering and Environment as well as Head of the Occupational Safety, Health and Environment Working Group, addressed a warm welcome speech to all participants.
On this occasion, Mr. Piyawat Phutthapatimoke, a Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Specialist from Yai Cha Sub-district Administrative Organization, Sampran District, Nakhon Pathom Province, and his team served as guest speakers. The theoretical training was held in the morning at the Grand Auditorium Hall, where the guest speakers shared knowledge on the theory of fire, fire classification, fire extinguishing methods, fighting fire with psychology, prevention of ignition, types of fire extinguishers, proper use of personal protective equipment for firefighting, application of existing systems, first aid for burn injuries, and fundamental knowledge on fire extinguishing for types A, B, C, and D. In the afternoon, there were also operational trainings on emergency assistance using an AED device, survival techniques in fire situations, and safety precautions for cooking gas at the Innovative Space, in front of IT321 and the front area of the ICT Building, Mahidol University, Salaya.
“The Fire Drill” was a part of the annual project organized by the Safety, Occupational Health, and Environmental Working Group. The objectives of the training were to practice basic firefighting skills and to equip staff and students of the Faculty with the knowledge, understanding, and ability to respond appropriately in the event of a fire incident in alignment with the policies related to occupational health, safety, and environmental conditions.
